R. Phillip Colon, PhD

Dr. Colon, best known as Phillip by clients, patients, and colleagues alike, is a soft- spoken, down to earth clinician who is passionate about his work. His honest, direct, no-nonsense style of relating is comforting to those in his presence. An active, engaging participant in the treatment, Dr. Colon works collaboratively with those under his care.

Education and Training

Dr. Colon received both his M.A.  and Ph.D.  in Clinical Psychology from the now Derner Institute of Advanced Psychological Studies at Adelphi University (Garden City, NY). The Institute was psychoanalytic and psychodynamic in orientation. He completed a three year Fellowship studying the identification and treatment of Intellectual Disabilities  at the Westchester Institute for Human Development (Valhalla, NY). There he learned Multi Modal Behavior Therapy.

Dr. Colon went on to study privately with Dr. Arthur Stein, the creator of Comprehensive Family Therapy (Brookville, NY) and later completed an Externship in couples and family therapy at The Comprehensive Family Therapy Institute (Springhouse, PA).

Dr. Colon received certification in Family Business Advising through the Family Firm Institute (Boston, MA) and later was certified in Family Business Advising with Fellow Status (Family Firm Institute, Boston, MA).

More recently he completed a postgraduate certificate in Cognitive Behavioral Treatment (Adelphi University, Garden City, NY). 

 For more than 25 years Dr. Colon has been studying the treatment of trauma and dissociation, most of that time in private supervision. Dr. Colon has been studying newly developed techniques in the treatment of trauma and PTSD and received certification in The Havening Technique.
